April 22-26

Happy Monday!  This is the last big week prior to the MAP test!  We will kick off our week of preparation by having a super hero assembly today at 2.

Here is a look at our week of preparation ahead.

In Math, we will continue with our Buckle Down Lessons.  On Monday, we will start with estimation and problem solving.  On Tuesday, we will move on to patterns, followed by expressions and number sentences, geometric figures and concepts.

We get back into Science this week, and will finish off the year with Science units.  Students will begin looking at the earth's renewable resources on Monday, and non-renewable resources on Tuesday.  By Wednesday, we will look at conserving resources.  On Thursday and Friday, we will look at matter and its properties and complete an investigation on Friday.

For English Language Arts, we will continue with Buckle Down Lessons.  On Monday, students will practice painting pictures with words.  On Tuesday, we will look at following directions.  By Wednesday, students will be working on revision and editing strategies in a MAP-like format.  By Thursday and Friday, we will be crunching grammar pieces such as sentence structure, sentence type, capitalization, and punctuation.

In Reading, we will continue practicing with MAP-like stories and questions to prepare for next week.

We will be doing Spelling in the same review format.  Students will use Buckle Down as an example with strategies and tips on how they will encounter spelling on the MAP test.  The questions will be in multiple choice format.  Therefore, we will not have spelling words this week.

I misspoke on last week's Blog post saying progress reports went out on Friday.  The actual date that they will go home in today, April 22.  Sorry if this caused any confusion.

As a reminder, our testing begins on Tuesday, April 30, at 8:30.  We will test through Friday.  Although testing begins at 8:30, we will get the students ready starting at 8, so please ensure that your child in here on time those days.  Have a great week!
