This year is flying by....
Here is a look at our week ahead.
In Math, we will continue our work with metric units in learning how to convert them. We will work on the problem solving strategy of logical reasoning, and begin looking at measuring temperature. By Friday, we will be preparing for a test that we will take after our three-day weekend, on Tuesday.
In Social Studies we have our Chapter 3 test today. We will then begin our Chapter 4 unit on the arrival of Europeans in Missouri. We will complete all lessons and notes in a packet form. This packet is what we base the test off of, so we will encourage the students to use it to study for the test. The test for this chapter will also be on the following Tuesday, February 19.
Reading this week takes a closer look at First and Second-Hand accounts. This involves understanding if the author was present during the event they are writing about (First-Hand), of if their writing takes place much later, or as an outsider (Second-Hand). We will be using several stories to help us with this concept. We will also use this week to take a second look a Cause and Effect. On Wednesday, we have a HALF DAY. We are using the majority of this day as a "Reading Marathon". The students will spend 110 minutes alternating reading and writing from their own book. We have several really fun activities to bring their reading to life through writing.
In Writing this week, we will work on proper paragraphing. Our goal is for students to first recognize the three aspects of a paragraph, and then to apply the skills. By the end of the week, students will compose a paragraph about their opinion on school lunches, prompted by a non-fiction article that we will use to identify the proper parts of a paragraph.
