January 29-February 1

Happy Monday!

Here is a look at our week ahead:

In Math, we will look at non-standard units of measurement such as your hand or foot or even paper clips to help find the length and width of things.  We will then move on to customary measurements such as inch, foot, and yard. Students will also take a look at measurements of capacity, such as pint, cup, quart, and gallon.  We will then take this opportunity to teach students to convert customary measurements, and check for reasonableness of answers.

This week in Social Studies, we will begin our unit on our state today.  In this unit, we will look at arts, sports, and recreation in our state.  This is a short unit so we will review and then test on Friday.

In Reading, students will take time to read from a particular point of view.  They will then decide how the reading passage is narrated; first or third person.

In English Language Arts, students will begin the drafting process on their expository papers.  Hopefully you have read the note sent home last Tuesday and discussed the options with your child.  Our final drafts should be completed by the end of Friday, and presentations will begin on the following Monday.  A reminder note of your child's presentation will be sent home later this week.
